In my last two room makeovers one of the biggest and most dramatic changes i ve made is to replace the old sliding closet doors with regular hinged doors. They look so rustic. Reuse the screws from the old sliding doors in the new installation. Remove the hinges and knob from the door.

My biggest complaint is that when the doors are open as you see in the second photo portions of the closet are almost inaccessible. Rather than install new doors i decided to convert these bi fold doors into swing out doors. Locate and mark studs in your wall then mark the wall to mount the track making sure that it s level and leaving an inch of clearance between the floor and the bottom of the door. If you are considering replacing the bifold doors because you find yourself frustrated by having to open them from the wrong side simply reverse the bifold doors so that the door handles are now inside the room you use most often.
